REVIEW
I have watched Ghost Adventures so many times these past few years it intrigues me every time to figure out just where the human soul really goes. I heard Zak Bagans lead investigor of the show had a book out this week and I said, “well I am ordering it now”. I read the book completely the last few days and it talks in great detail about so much Ghost Technology the crew uses to investigate each haunting. The Ghost Technology talked about in the book is below:
Digital cameras —— It is now within the means of investigators to purchase 5 megapixel and greater cameras. These newer cameras not only offer clean and crisp images that do not have the problems with false “orbs” but some models also offer “Night Shot” technology and all of them even offer a way to authenticate the images that is as trustworthy as a negative. One of the options of a higher quality camera is access to what are called Raw Data files. These files are uncompressed and unprocessed and an anomalous image that is examined using this option can actually be authenticated – perhaps with even more detail than in a photographic negative. In addition, the newer cameras also offer access to the EXIF information about images that are photographed. EXIF is data that is embedded into the image once it is taken. It contains everything about the camera that took the image, including camera settings, date and time the image was taken, if flash was used, the ISO settings and more. If anyone attempts to manipulate the image, the EXIF data holds this information too. In this way, a person trying to analyze a digital image will be able to see if it has been manipulated or not. If anyone attempts to alter the EXIF data, it will destroy the image. In this way, it becomes a “digital negative” of every picture that is taken.
EVP Audio recorders ——- An EVP recorder is really nothing more than a standard audio recorder (digital or analog) that is used in the course of a Paranormal investigation to capture an Electronic voice phenomena. Once you have your digital voice recording file downloaded to your computer you can analyze the EVP with Audacity. Audacity is free software that works with PC’s or Macs and is a great way to analyze your EVP recording. It can filter out background noise and help you better analyze your EVP’s, its free and the options it has it too many to list here. Just visit the site. Electronic Voice Phenomenon are recordings of voice, or what appears to be a human voice, on an audiotape or other electronic recording device for which there isn’t any known physical explanation. The film, “White Noise,” depicted this phenomenon and raised awareness of the issue among the general public. Many paranormal researchers believe the recordings represent legitimate, hard evidence of paranormal activity, but the validity of EVP remains controversial to most of the general public.
Infrared imaging ——– A thermographic camera or infrared camera is a device that forms an image using infrared radiation, similar to a common camera that forms an image using visible light. Instead of the 450–750 nanometer range of the visible light camera, infrared cameras operate in wavelengths as long as 14,000 nm (14 µm).
EMF detectors ——— An EMF meter (or EMF detector) is a scientific instrument for measuring electromagnetic fields (abbreviated as EMF). Most meters measure the electromagnetic radiation flux density (DC fields) or the change in an electromagnetic field over time (AC fields), essentially the same as a radio antenna, but with quite different detection characteristics. EMF detectors were designed to detect electromagnetic emissions from microwave ovens and high tension electrical wires. EMF detectors alert investigators to the presence of ghosts by measuring electromagnetic distortion in the two to seven milligauss range. The models that come most highly recommended by paranormal investigators are the Trifield EMF Detector and the Trifield Natural EM.
Motion Detectors ——- Infrared motion detection could be yet another factor in proving that spirits emit infrared energy. Many devices will detect infrared disturbances up to 30 feet away. Infrared radiation exists in the electromagnetic spectrum at a wavelength that is longer than visible light. It cannot be seen but it can be detected. Objects that generate heat also generate infrared radiation and those objects include animals and the human body whose radiation is strongest at a wavelength of 9.4um. Infrared in this range will not pass through many types of material that pass visible light such as ordinary window glass and plastic. However it will pass through, with some attenuation, material that is opaque to visible light such as germanium and silicon. An unprocessed silicon wafer makes a good IR window in a weatherproof enclosure for outdoor use. It also provides additional filtering for light in the visible range. 9.4um infrared will also pass through polyethylene which is usually used to make Fresnel lenses to focus the infarared onto sensor elements.
It’s easy to say ghosts exist or don’t exist. Anyone can do that. Trying to figure out the why or what is a different story. Paranormal investigator Zak Bagans, host of the popular Travel Channel series Ghost Adventures, pulls from his years of experience with paranormal activities and unexplained phenomena to provide an evenhanded look at a divisive subject. In Dark World, regardless of whether you believe in the afterlife or not, Zak does his best to find and share answers to the phenomena that people encounter. He wants you to experience a haunting through his eyes: to feel what it’s like to be scared, freaked out, pushed, cold, sluggish, whispered-at and touched by an ethereal being or attacked by a demonic spirit. But beyond simply experiencing these events, Zak is looking for the reasons behind them, searching for answers to the unanswered questions. Addressing all the major issues and theories of the field in an impartial way, Dark World is a must read for paranormal enthusiasts, those who don’t believe and anyone who’s ever wondered about things that go bump in the night.
Zak Bagans never believed in ghosts until he came face to face with one during a terrifying incident in a Michigan apartment. Not the passive type, Zak set out to learn more about the paranormal. In 2004 he produced an award-winning documentary film that changed his life and the lives of many others when he captured one of the most shocking pieces of paranormal evidence ever. Now the host of two top-rated paranormal television shows, Bagans has conducted hundreds of investigations into the unknown, becoming intimately familiar with the places ordinary people will not go.
Kelly Crigger is not a paranormal investigator, but has been intrigued by the paranormal for many years and has conducted several investigations alongside Zak. He is the author of three books, including Title Shot, and over two hundred internet and print articles. Crigger retired from the US Army in 2011 after 24 years in uniform.
